Here’s a 30-second trailer for tarento Bobby Ologun’s directorial debut “Moon Dream” (out June 22, 2013).

The film is based on Ologun’s own experiences as he traveled from his native Nigeria to Tokyo for the first time and formed relationships with the Japanese people who were quick to show him kindness.

A 9-minute Cannes Film Market promo for “Osamu Tezuka’s Buddha 2” (Buddha 2: Osamu Tezuka no Buddha -Owarinaki Tabi-) has been released via the movie’s official website.

The film is the second installment of a trilogy based on Osamu Tezuka’s award-winning 8-volume Buddha manga and will be released in February 2014.

Shusuke Kaneko’s “Ikenie no Dilemma” now a trilogy

Shusuke Kaneko’s upcoming teen survival thriller “Ikenie no Dilemma” will actually be a trilogy, following the format of the original novel series.

The first film will get a limited theatrical release from July 13, 2013. The DVD, along with two direct-to-DVD sequels, will be released on August 2.

A trailer has been released for Toshiyuki Morioka’s “Jyokyo Monogatari” (out August 24, 2013).

Based on an autobiographical manga by Rieko Saibara, the movie stars Kie Kitano as an aspiring artist named Natsumi who moves to Tokyo to attend art school and begins living with a young man named Ryosuke (Sosuke Ikematsu). Over time, the hard-working and ambitious Natsumi begins to feel like she’s growing apart from her easy-going boyfriend.

Former Momoiro Clover member Akari Hayami to star in “Momose, Kocchi wo Muite”

Akari Hayami, formerly of the idol group Momoiro Clover, will be starring in a film called “Momose, Kocchi wo Muite” (out spring 2014)

The film is based on a novel by Eiichi Nakata (one of Otsuichi’s pen names). Hayami will play a girl named Momose who becomes involved with a popular older boy named Miyazaki (Asuka Kudo). However, in order to salvage his relationship with his real girlfriend (Anna Ishibashi), Miyazaki convinces Momose and a dweebish student named Noboru Aihara (Taro Takeuchi) to pretend to date each other for a while.

Shion Sono’s “Why Don’t You Play in Hell?” gets surprising PG-12 rating

Shion Sono’s upcoming film “Why Don’t You Play in Hell?” (out Sept. 28, 2013) has been given a PG-12 rating by Eirin, Japan’s film regulator. Eirin cited the obvious comedic intent of some of the more violent sequences for their decision.

A teaser has been released for Hirokazu Kore-eda’s “Like Father, Like Son” which will premiere at the Cannes Film Festival in a few days.

Masaharu Fukuyama stars as a successful family man named Ryota who discovers the 6-year-old son that he and his wife Midori (Machiko Ono) have raised was actually switched at birth. Soon they meet the couple that raised their true biological son (Lily Franky and Yoko Maki) and all four parents must grapple with the importance of nature vs. nurture.

Kaoru Yachigusa’s “Kujikenaide” supporting cast revealed

Kaoru Yachigusa’s co-stars have been revealed for “Kujikenaide” (out November 2013), a film adaptation of late poet Toyo Shibata’s best-selling anthology.

The newly-announced cast members include Ran Ito as Toyo’s daughter-in-law, Rei Dan and Mana Ashida as Toyo at younger ages, Mizuho Suzuki as Toyo’s husband, Yusuke Kamiji as a doctor, and Pierre Taki as the father of a young girl Toyo befriends.

Mizuki Yamamoto to play a maid in live-action “Black Butler”

21-year-old actress/model Mizuki Yamamoto will play an original character named Rin in the upcoming live-action adaptation of “Black Butler”

Rin is a cute maid character who serves Shiori Genpo (Ayame Goriki) alongside demon butler Sebastian (Hiro Mizushima) in a story set 130 years after the events of the manga. The role will involve intense action scenes which required two months of training for Yamamoto to prepare for before filming.

Ebizo Ichikawa stars as tea master Sen no Rikyu, who was ordered to commit seppuku by Toyotomi Hideyoshi (Nao Omori). As he awaits his fate, his wife So-on (Miki Nakatani) asks him something that causes him to reflect back on his life and a long-held secret.
